What Makes Toronto, Canada a Unique, Yet One of the Best Vacation Spots

January 17, 2016 By Professor Bob Boyd

Toronto, Canada

A few of our readers who are into traveling may be aware of this already, but for those who do not know, you can actually do a luxury getaway even without traveling halfway around the world. Which is why in this article, we’ll take a look at one of the best vacation spots in Canada—Toronto. Sure, some of you may have seen the Niagara Falls and tasted the best poutine this city could offer, but the reason why we are reviewing this city is for us to take the mainstream or “touristy” spots aside and have a glimpse of some underrated activities and sites in Toronto.

Festivals, festivals, festivals.

When it comes to festivals, Toronto is definitely the place to be. If you want to have a last-minute travel before fall sets in, you can catch the Toronto International Film Festival in September. There is also the Festival of Authors for literature bugs in October. For those who are visiting the city in the summer, there is also the Luminato Festival of the Arts.

There are numerous museums to satisfy your hankering for art.

Toronto is a hub for fine arts with the city’s numerous museums like the Royal Ontario Museum and the Toronto Dominion Gallery of Inuit Arts. Recently, a new museum was inaugurated—the Aga Khan Museum, which is a stunning attraction that houses pieces that are precious to the Islamic-Torontonian culture. For those who do not know, there is a small Islamic community in the northern part of the city, which you’ll appreciate better once you tour the Aga Khan with displays that show Islamic life and art through the ages.

You won’t run out of extreme activities to try.

Some tourists look for extreme, exhilarating activities, and Toronto is just the perfect destination for this. See the whole city from another perspective by edge-walking along the CN Tower, live your thriller-movie fantasies with a few rounds of axe-throwing at a Battle-Axe Throwing League branch, or challenge your friends to a game of bike polo in Trinity Bellwoods Park.

Eat ‘til you drop at one of the best vacation spots in Canada.

If you want to indulge yourself and do a bit of food-tripping, Toronto surely won’t disappoint. Aside from the already-popular poutine, the city offers a lot of food items that are unique, but very satisfying to any tourist’s palate. This is why a food tour is slowly becoming a popular addition in most vacation deals! Taste their peameal bacon for a couple of dollars, go to the Kensington Market for some of the latest food crazes, or kill a few hours at some of the city’s concept cafes.

Bonus: Experience even more art.

Aside from the ones that you see in the museum, Toronto is adorned with many beautiful graffiti art. Did you know that the original Banksy used to be located on one of the city’s walls before it was transferred in Hotel Ocho?

Top Holiday Destinations To Travel

December 13, 2015 By Professor Bob Boyd

Tromso, Norway Hillside

December is the time of the year when a lot of people jet set from one place to another. Aside from the long breaks from work, it also provides everyone with the opportunity to immerse themselves in holiday cultures all over the world. So this week, we will be sharing with you some destinations you might want to consider if you are traveling during the Holidays.

Enjoy a magical Christmas (or Noel) in Quebec, Canada.

For those of us who do not have the luxury of traveling all the way to the other side of the world, there is a destination that fits your description of “Winter Wonderland” perfectly—Quebec! The lights and the decorations in Quebec during the holidays is as enchanting as the ones you see in a fantasy film especially since they are draped around century-old stone homes. Make sure not to miss their Christmas Village! The European vibe of the city also adds up to the magic, and they have Christmas markets that will land you amazing trinkets to bring back home.

Be a stone’s throw from the North Pole in Tromso, Norway.

If you, as a child, have always dreamt taking the Polar Express to Santa Land, then you’ll be thrilled to hear that you can make that dream come true by booking a trip to Tromso this holiday season! If you’ve never seen the Northern Lights before, Tromso is definitely the place to be because they have it almost every night! Moreover, the weeks leading up to December 25 is filled with events that will make you feel like you’re celebrating Christmas everyday—they have Christmas plays and concerts, an exhibit of a Gingerbread city, and if you’re travelling with kids, they have a unique Christmas celebration at the Tromso Mini Zoo that includes a visit from Santa himself!

Discover what a traditional Christmas is like in Provence, France.

While we would recommend a Provencal getaway any time of the year, the province is especially breathtaking during the holidays. You can find beauty almost anywhere—from the snow-covered roofs and smoke-stained chimneys to the twinkling lights in Cours Mirabeau. Their Christmas traditions are like no other: they set up their Christmas Cribs at home, plant the Wheat of Saint Barbara at the beginning of the season, then light up their Christmas Log and feast on 13 Desserts on Christmas Eve. Aside from witnessing these traditions, you may also visit their numerous Christmas markets and truly immerse yourself in their food, products, and culture.

A Luxury Traveler’s Guide to the Exotic Mauritius

October 29, 2015 By Professor Bob Boyd

Mauritius 2007
Being one of the underrated islands in the Indian Ocean for the longest time, Mauritius has finally started gaining popularity among travelers in the recent years. As travel-aficionados continue to seek more “virgin” destinations for luxury travel, it’s easy to see why Mauritius became one of their top picks. Having beautiful beaches is just one of its many perks. The beaches is probably what lures travelers to visit Mauritius in the first place, but the island’s natural beauty, art, culture, and people are be the reasons why these travelers will keep coming back. Let’s delve deeper into why The Star and the Key to the Indian Ocean is one of the ultimate vacation spots.

The beaches redefine what “luxury travel” means.

As mentioned earlier, many travelers are beholden to Mauritius because it has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. If you are ever visiting the island, do it during their summer, which is in November to May. This is the time when you will see their waters in the bluest of blue, and you can be in the water as long as you want to. There are waters made for water sports, there are beaches entirely covered in starfish (that can be quite pretty!), there are quiet lagoons, and more!

The locals are friendly.

Mauritius may look and feel like an unfamiliar territory (it’s about 35 hours of air travel, depending on your travel deal), but once you get to meet the locals, you will immediately feel the “homey” atmosphere in the Island. A lot of them speak English very well, so you do not need to worry about language barriers. It’s also easy to find a Mauritian who can lend a helping hand should you need one—they are very proud of their island and their culture, which is why they are friendly to tourists who want to discover the beauty of Mauritius.

Their food is a melting pot of different cultures.

Before their independence, Mauritius had many nations disputing over it including France and England. This is evident in their cuisine, where you can see French and English influences. Aside from French and English, booking a luxury travel to the island will allow you to see that the island’s diverse ethnicity is encompassed in some of its iconic dishes with some inspiration from Asian favorites like samosas, curry, chicken kalya (chicken cooked in yogurt and saffron), and poori.

Discovering the Kid-Friendly Side of Las Vegas

September 26, 2015 By Professor Bob Boyd

Discovering the Kid-Friendly Side of Las VegasWhat is the first thing that comes to your mind when a Las Vegas trip is brought up? We’re guessing that a getaway with your kids is not really one of the first few things you think of, right? That’s because there is a stigma that Vegas is mostly for adults. The mere fact that its monicker is “Sin City” tells us that it’s not the most child-friendly place in the United States. This article however, intends to shed some new life in Las Vegas. If you do your research properly, you will find that the city actually has various attractions that will make you book a flight and have the best family vacations with kids in Vegas.

Vegas offers unconventional entertainment, making it one of the best family vacations with kids.

Vegas might be short on recreational parks or beaches, but it sure offers various out-of-this-world activities that kids of any age will enjoy. If your kids are the adventurous type, take them to Vegas Indoor Skydiving for an exhilarating experience. Do your kids love animals (and visual arts)? If so, then a trip to Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat will give them the time of their lives. If they are the sleuthing type, bring them to MGM Grand for some detective work, CSI-style. Here, they will not just enjoy a private tour but play the role of a crime scene investigator!

Las Vegas will give you a glimpse of attractions other countries are known for.

Good news—you don’t have to fly to Europe to experience a Gondola ride because you can do this while enjoying your luxury excape in Vegas. And the London Eye? Get the next best thing by riding the High Roller! If are also in for some wet adventure, there is no need to fly to Australia for Wet N’ Wild because there’s one in Vegas, too!

Vegas will let you have a close encounter with your favourite celebrities.

Can you imagine being invited to a celebrity-studded party? The chances of it happening in real life is probably not very high, but you can have the next best thing in Vegas! Give your kids a chance to be starstruck with a visit at Madame Tussauds Las Vegas. Make sure that you don’t miss this one while you are enjoying the best family vacations with kids in Las Vegas. This is bound to be a fun experience both for kids and adults, plus you’ll enjoy taking selfies with the “wax celebrities” who all look so real.
